My name is Christie Tabler and I am a wife and mother of three young men ages 23, 21 and 18. I received a BSN over 26 years ago and have found as with any career there are many different aspects and opportunities to advance and grow.
In the last 5 years, I found myself moving in a different direction and away from floor nursing into my current role as a Workforce Management Labor Efficiency Manager.
As with any career move, I wanted to learn and understand more in terms of business and leadership. After discussing with my colleagues about future career opportunities and leadership roles, they encouraged me to go back to school and get my MBA.
As I researched potential universities and programs, I knew I would not do well with a strictly online approach and because I travel for work knew I would not be able to attend a program that was strictly on campus. Bluffton offered exactly the type of program I was looking for.
I started Bluffton’s virtual MBA program in August of 2019, and I am very happy with my decision. The virtual classroom allows me to have that “classroom feel” and be able to interact with my professors as well as cohort conducting group activities and classroom studies. I do not have to worry if I am out of town for work because I can log into the class from anywhere.
I have an amazing cohort. We work together, encourage and assist each other with not only our classwork but personally and professionally. Our motto is “We are all in this together.” I could not imagine doing this program without them.
I am in my 2nd year of the program, and I cannot begin to tell you how much I have learned. I have not only learned the accounting, finance and economic aspects of business, but also how to become a better leader. The communication classes as well as theory classes assist me in my everyday conversations and meetings with senior leadership. They also helped me appreciate different perspectives to situations.
There are challenges as well as rewards with obtaining an MBA. There are many hours of homework and studying. However, the instructors are very encouraging and help in any way they can. They understand that most of us are juggling school, work and family. I have a very supportive husband and family along with a fun and encouraging cohort.
If there is anyone out there thinking about obtaining their MBA, I would highly recommend Bluffton University. Bluffton University has made the transition for this wife, and mother of three back to student easy and rewarding.
